A standout among Avatar's most beloved episodes gets its own MTG Secret Lair.

Typically, summary installments are loathed among audiences as a needless diversion, or at best accepted as a necessity in television in the era of weekly production. However, this wasn't true, but Avatar: The Last Airbender showed it through "The Ember Island Players," a beloved installment in its last season which is now getting a dedicated Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drop.

The entire Secret Lair superdrop for the soon-to-release Avatar: The Last Airbender set was unveiled on November 4. It features five Secret Lairs, and although a set named "My Cabbages!" is an admittedly funny homage to the series' beloved recurring figure, the additional releases seem somewhat uninspired, aside from one remarkable entry: "The Ember Island Players."

Inspired by installment 17 in the final season of the beloved series, this special set contains these specific cards:

• 1x Phantasmal Image portrayed as "Absolutely Accurate Actor"
• 1x Braid of Fire
• 1x Cursed Mirror
• 1x Mask of Memory
• 1x Thespian's Stage

The reason this segment remains memorable

Fans of Avatar warmly cherish this episode, which functioned as a summary of the protagonist Aang and the group's quest prior to the final episode. Unlike other recap episodes, or "clip shows," "The Ember Island Players" did not stem due to production constraints or scheduling problems. The show's makers specifically aimed to provide audiences an opportunity to revisit the overall plot, but they decided to execute it with flair.

During the installment, the heroes view a stage show based on their exploits at a playhouse located on Ember Island, named The Boy in the Iceberg. The whole thing is wildly exaggerated, over-the-top, and utterly comical. It works because it plays with the characters' perception of themselves, contrasting them against how the world (and notably the antagonist nation) views them. It contains the right amount of introspective humor, and it results in possibly the finest interpretation of Avatar available to date.

When it comes to cost-effectiveness, this is a great Secret Lair for one simple reason: Braid of Fire. This specific card trades for $20 and $40 on various platforms as of now, and at $29.99 you can obtain the complete collection, or alternatively $39.99 for the shiny edition.
