The British designer Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer behind many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the pastel suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes less than a month after he debuted his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in shaping form-fitting garments made him a "true original," in the words of the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including various looks for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.
