As he approaches his half-decade plus one year at the helm, Mikel Arteta has stated plainly that his future at Arsenal is fundamentally dependent to achieving success.

The Journey So Far: Six Years in Charge

The former Arsenal captain took over on the 20th of December in 2019 and soon guided the team to an FA Cup victory not long after. But, that first major trophy stands as his sole major honor following the departure of Unai Emery.

“I can,” the manager said upon being asked about his future past 2027. “But it’s about today. And numerous factors need to fall into place in the near future as well to earn the right.”

Present Challenges

As trailing Manchester City set to face West Ham on Saturday afternoon, Arsenal risk losing the summit in the Premier League prior to their fixture. He added, expressing gratitude for the consistent faith from the club's ownership, but pinpointing the squad's dedication as most crucial. “Ultimately, the critical component are those players... For six years, I’ve seen just players with a degree of commitment, desire to learn and give their all to the team.”

Injury Concerns

The team heads into the weekend fixture coping with an additional absence. Defender Ben White has been sidelined with a hamstring injury that is likely to keep him out for a few weeks.

A Different Club

Regardless of the injury crisis and the intense pressure, Arteta is confident the club's “objectives and communication” are profoundly distinct from when he began his reign.

He pointed to the record-breaking achievements as evidence of progress. “Consider the performances, all the club records that were shattered... We still haven’t managed to do that [win trophies]. But that shows the standard we operate at.”

He finished by saying, “It represents a quality that the Premier League has never experienced in the past. And our aim is to achieve even higher goals. And if we do that, I think we are on the correct trajectory to winning.”
