The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful nostalgic choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its presence.

But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of the second series, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
