A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign seeks to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also spotlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He remarked the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it fails to, holiday tracks are a category of their own.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
The song was recorded following a large-scale benefit event held in late summer. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the performance was shelved during the concert due to scheduling overruns.
The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby features a range of well-known figures from the scene. All were part of the earlier concert, which successfully generated a considerable total for charitable causes.
Lullaby was crafted by a group of talented individuals. The song features a combination of the heritage language with contemporary English verses.
The team running the project have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a figure commented. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the more the merrier. It all goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the territory was described as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property reportedly in ruins or severely impacted.
“Against that backdrop, a few million doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what truly matters is above all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
