There are those on the political spectrum who offer only grievance: The government is proceeding with the job of economic rejuvenation.

At the budget last week, appropriate selections were enacted for Britain, reducing energy expenses with £150 off bills, defending public healthcare and tackling the scourge of child poverty by scrapping the two-child restriction. Measures were also taken that the revenue we raised through taxes was done justly, with everyone contributing but those with the greatest capacity paying what they owe.

As a result of the choices we made, the budget created a more stable economic environment, reducing price increases and government bond yields. This is vital for protecting our public services, when £1 in every £10 spent by government goes on debt interest.

Building on Economic Foundations

The plan reinforces the action we have already taken to boost financial conditions: providing £120bn in extra capital investment in such things as transportation and power infrastructure; implementing major regulatory changes in a generation to favor construction, not impediments; supporting the expansion of Heathrow and Gatwick; and establishing trading partnerships with the EU, India and the US.

In combination, these have allowed us to outperform our expansion estimates.

Revitalizing Our Country

As I explained at the party conference, the government’s purpose is precisely the renewal of our commercial landscape, our neighborhoods and our nation. Via these methods, we will halt deterioration and rebuild trust in our country.

We will challenge those on the left and right who only offer complaints and whose approach would lead to further decline. Let me be clear, increasing public debt or reimposing spending cuts – that is the strategy of degradation and I cannot endorse it.

An Extensive Expansion Agenda

Through remarks coming soon, I will frame the economic measures within the broader economic renewal on which the government will be assessed following completion of this parliament.

If we are to achieve the countrywide revitalization we seek, we must do more to stimulate expansion, to tackle inactivity among young people and to seek enhanced global partnership with our trading partners.

Bureaucracy Reduction Effort

Our expansion agenda will include a reinforced attention on sweeping away unnecessary regulation. Commonly it has fallen to those on the left who have preferred controls, but there is nothing advanced in regulations which merely act to raise the cost of living for the poorest, to impede commercial development unnecessarily, or prevent a Labour government achieving its aims.

This is the reason I am asking the business secretary to tackle the type of unnecessary embellishment and superfluous bureaucracy that raise expenditures and impede our industrial strategy.

Welfare State Modernization

Economic renewal also demands that we must continue to overhaul social security. We took over an ineffective structure that left children too poor to eat and which dismissed adolescents as incapable of employment.

We should not endorse either part of that failing Tory system. Hence the reason we will do more to support adolescents in reaching their abilities.

Since when individuals are overlooked in your early career, if you are denied the assistance you need to manage emotional difficulties, or if you are simply written off because you are experiencing cognitive variations or handicaps, then it can confine you to a pattern of worklessness and dependency for decades.

This imposes financial burdens, is detrimental to our output, but far more significantly, it takes away opportunity and disregards ability. Any Labour government worthy of the name should not overlook it.

Hence the explanation we have tasked a previous healthcare official to make practical recommendations to help young people with health conditions access work, training or education – making certain they get help to prosper rather than marginalized.

International Trade Enhancement

Lastly, we need additional measures to help our businesses conduct global commerce. There is no credible economic vision for Britain that does not establish us as a accessible, commercial nation.

We need to acknowledge the reality that the poorly executed departure agreement substantially damaged our finances.
