This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a major dictionary recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
